Ren Faire Costume!

I am a huge fan of the Ren Faire. As such, it is very important that I be appropriately garbed at all times, and my sister Amanda (whose craft goodness can be seen at her blog, Della Stella) has graciously offered to make me a new costume for my birthday.

Here's the pattern:

I'm aiming to have the dress on the left with the shirt on the right (I've never been terribly fond of a high collar, but I love the open front of the skirt). The colors I asked for were dark blue and dark green, and apparently Amanda has located some primo brocades from which to craft the dress. I'm really excited to see how it looks.

On another note, I'm very excited about the hat contest we're having at Amanda's bridal shower in the middle of June. She sent out these plain straw hats as invitations, and we're supposed to decorate them for a contest that will be judged at the party. The prize is in theme with the rest of the party: we're having an 'old fashioned' high tea, and the winner will receive (among other things) a beautiful teapot quilt that my mother is currently making.

I can't show pictures of the hat until after the contest (because Amanda does actually read my blog from time to time, though she rarely posts..ahemahem...), but I'll take them and post them up after the party's over. Along with the gift I'm going in on with some other folks...I don't personally understand it, but I obey the registry...

We'll be going to a Jimmy Buffet concert with my parents on the 14th as well, which is right before the shower. I've planned something special for Father's Day, which should be a real blast. I just need to figure out how to fit everything into one weekend (as usual).

In any case, will post more later. Right now I'm enjoying the (rather cold) wilds of Canada, and we're driving home tomorrow. In the meantime, I guess I should get some homework done...urgh...

"Enormous"?

I started out this blog whining about my grandmother mentioning that I have perhaps become a bit 'enormous'. However, while I don't think the "E" word really encompasses my current condition adequately, I really do need to lose some weight.

And so, after my surgery on Wednesday, I will be dieting as I recover. It'll be good for me in a lot of ways, and for Sonny (my significant other) as well.

Just thought I'd mention it on blogger. Perhaps I should take pictures of myself to capture the wonder (and slow starvation) of the diet plan...hopefully this will keep me motivated...::fingers crossed::

One Crazy Weekend...

I know it's already the Friday before this coming weekend, but last weekend was absolutely insane and I feel the need to at least post about it a little bit. It was our company's first quarter VP meeting, and guess who got to organize it? I also got to actually attend the conference, which was in Cambridge, MD (right near Chesapeake Bay). It was absolutely gorgeous! Check out the view from my room...

Feel free to salivate. :-) There was (obviously) a huge golf course, we were right on the water, and the hotel itself was beautiful. However, I (in short order) turned my room into a little workaholic's dream...check out the packets for the meeting "in vitro" before they were completed...

Overall, I think the meeting went really well. Everyone arrived at the hotel safely, (which was great news), and the meeting and food delivery went fairly well too. I already have some 'areas for improvement' for our next meeting, which will apparently be held out in the midwest. Hurray! Except for the flying bit...but maybe they wont need me to attend this time!

Norn stayed with Mom and Dad, and Frigga and Freyja were on their own for four whole days! I felt so badly leaving them, but after seeing how normal and happy they were when I got back, I'm glad I didn't plunk them into the Petsmart Petshotel yet. I'd rather they be somewhat lonely but at home rather than somewhat lonely and somewhere strange. However, when I have my 'procedure' at the end of May, they're going to be there for at least 10 days...:-( I feel so badly, but they are just way too rambunctious for me to take care of when I'm sick and then to haul them up to Canada...I'd never see them again.

So we'll just have to deal with it one step at a time. There's also the issue of my sister's wedding in August - they'll have to be boarded then too. I'm sure they'll be fine, but I just hate the feeling of leaving them behind.
